Extravagant Lunch
I swung by my wife’s office today, told her to clear the rest of her schedule for the afternoon because I had a surprise for her. Now, she’s a bit of a workaholic, so she protested at first, but she’s also a very curious wife, so she agreed eventually. I got her in the car (I got an easy rent a car from the Miami car rental; Florida car hire is so cheap it was worth it!) which she loved, because it was a drop top, and she settled in the car and gave me a big sigh and a smile. She didn’t know where we were going, and I wasn’t telling her, so she just leaned back in the seat and slept in the sun for a while.
I drove two hours down the coast, and she only woke up once I pulled into the parking lot. When she opened her eyes, she gasped and jumped out of the car. “I thought they burned down!” she said, nearly squealing as she came over and kissed me. It was the tiny little crab shack where we had our first date fifteen years ago. I told her how I just read in the paper that they had reopened after more than five years of being closed because the father never sold the property and his kids finally took over the business. We had the best lunch, walked on the beach, and stayed until sunset. What a great day.
